A typical first responder shift is 24 hours on, and 48 hours off. This opens the door for many first responders to run businesses in their off time. We're here to explore first responder-owned businesses, interview owners about how they did it, and share their success with the first responder community and beyond.

Sam is an enthusiastic entrepreneur with a passion for inspiring others. Sam has always been interested in business: from mowing lawns and selling lemonade as a kid, to converting Arnold Schwarzenegger's personal fleet of H1 Hummers to burn Recycled Straight Vegetable Oil, or now working as a technical innovator in the Fire and Emergency Services industries. Sam is co-founder and CEO of HiViz Lighting, Inc. which includes the FireTech® and Whirl-E-Bird™ brands. He also proudly serves as a volunteer firefighter in western North Carolina.

Kaoma Massa is the Chief Operating Officer at HiViz Lighting, Inc., the parent company of the FireTech® and Whirl-E-Bird™ brands, where she plays a pivotal role in overseeing operations, business management, team culture, and customer experience for one of the leading manufacturers of premium LED scene and warning lighting solutions for the fire and emergency services industry.

Prior to HiViz, Kaoma gained hands-on experience as a Veterinary Assistant and earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Melbourne. Passionate about fostering a positive, mission-driven company culture, she continues to drive HiViz Lighting's commitment to excellence in emergency vehicle lighting that enhances safety and effectiveness on the scene.
